Helpful Tips when starting a new job
Good evening Ladies, Gentlemen, boys & Girls
As some of you might know, my names Jake
Tonight, I would love to chat to you all about something that happens to most of us once we get to about 18 years old.
Starting a new job
So I have recently started a new job in customer service which is going really well and I would love to help those of you starting to help you settle in.
On your first day it is crucial that you make a really good impression for your customers
this can be done in a number of ways:
1) making sure your uniform is super smart
2) making sure your appearance is smart with hair and nails etc
3) make sure you turn up early for your shift so you can start bang on time
4) make sure you have everything you need for your shift weather it be money or your work lanyard & ID or your work jacket, fully charged Radio if needed
5) make sure you are aware of who your duty manager is for the shift and who you should be working with
6) most importantly make sure you know where the evacuation exits are should there be an emergency so if something were to happen, you can be ready to help
On your first day if you are the first person customers see make sure of the following:
- SMILE!!! customers love a happy face!!
- You may feel very nervous, that is normal on your first day
- If you don't understand something, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ASK YOUR MANAGER!!! I can't stress this enough, they are there to help you!
- The more questions you ask the better you will feel
- If you work 6 hours + then please make sure you get your 20 min uninterrupted break which you are entitled to! this is so important!
- If you feel you need to, make notes on paper to help you remember things you need to know in your job! Your managers will not expect you to be a pro straight away!
- Before you leave to come home, make sure you find out when your next few shifts are so you know what times to come in! this might be on your company app if they have one, ( this is to your managers discretion)
- Should you get overwhelmed at any point during your first shift, please let your manager know ASAP so they can support you as that's what they're for!
Last but certainly not least:
HAVE FUN AND ENJOY YOURSELF!!!
Best wishes and the best of luck in your new career!!
Regards
Jake
